Type of Incident Reported: Suspicious Circumstance - Impersonating a 5-SURE driver

Date/Time of Incident: 5/18/19 around 12:40 AM

Date Reported to DPS: 5/18/19

Location: Arguello Way between Stern Hall and Wilbur Field

Description of Vehicle: Blue Subaru Forester (bright blue), no further details

Description of Driver: Male, 20-30 years of age, no further physical descriptors

Additional Details: A female student reported that she was walking with a male friend on Arguello Way near Stern Hall when a blue Subaru Forester pulled up near them. The driver identified himself as a 5-SURE driver and told her that he was there to pick her up. She had not requested a ride. Further, because the vehicle did not have any markings indicating it was a 5-SURE vehicle, she grew suspicious.

There were 2 other persons in the vehicle. A female was seated in the front passenger seat and a person whom she could not see was in the rear seat. The passenger was conversing with the person in the back seat and laughing and did not appear to be in distress.

Safety Suggestions: Stanford’s 5-SURE vehicles are well marked. Additionally, with the exception of golf carts, all of the vehicles currently used by 5-SURE are white in color. Accepting rides from persons who are unknown to you poses an inherent risk.
