Incident: Thefts of Vehicle Parts

Date: Between 10/1/19 – 10/4/19

Location: Parking garages and parking lots on campus

Details: In the last week, SUDPS has received an additional 6 reports of thefts of catalytic converters removed from cars that were parked in the Wilbur Field Garage and Wilbur parking lot (Lot 62). The thieves targeted 3 Toyota Prius and 3 Ford Excursions. SUDPS is investigating the reports, which include thefts during the day.

The Department of Public Safety encourages anyone who observes suspicious behavior or activity in a parking lot or garage to call 9-1-1 immediately. Please call to report any of the following:

· People loitering around vehicles, looking underneath or into parked vehicles

· Vehicles stopped behind or nearby parked vehicles in a way that could conceal criminal activity

· Vehicles raised up on a jack or hydraulic lift

· Activated car alarms

Safety and security tips: Remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially when walking to and from your vehicle. Report any suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1 immediately so that police can respond and investigate.
