Vehicle burglaries and thefts from vehicles

Type of Incident Reported: Vehicle Burglaries and thefts from vehicles

Date/Time of Incident: Mid-July – Present

Location: Various locations throughout campus

Details: The Stanford University Department of Public Safety (SUDPS) has received numerous reports of auto burglaries and thefts from unlocked vehicles from mid-July to present.

In addition to the information about similar crimes provided in the AlertSU messages sent on August 11, 2020 and August 14, 2020, the following additional crimes have been reported:

Vehicle Burglary - window broken and property stolen
Occurred: 8/14/2020 between 2:30pm and 3:35pm
Location: 188 Electioneer Road, West Campus Tennis Courts parking lot

Theft from Unlocked Vehicle - miscellaneous items stolen
Occurred: 8/16/2020 between 1:00pm and 4:22pm
Location: 80 Links Road, Golf Course parking lot

Vehicle Burglary - window broken but no property stolen
Occurred: 8/20/2020 between 1:40pm and 2:15pm
Location: 300 block Roth Way

Vehicle Burglary - window broken and property stolen
Occurred: 8/24/2020 between 4:20pm and 4:42pm
Location: 459 Lagunita Drive, Tresidder Memorial Union parking lot

Recovered Stolen Vehicle from Menlo Park
Occurred: 8/25/2020 at 10:36am
Location: 700 block Santa Maria Avenue

Vehicle Burglary - window broken and property stolen
Occurred: 8/25/2020 between 4:10pm and 4:20pm
Location: 200 block Lomita Drive
Additional information: Suspect vehicle described as a black 4-door sports car with a loud muffler. Four occupants.

Location: 91 Links Road, Golf Pro Shop parking lot

Safety Recommendations:
The Department of Public Safety is seeking the community’s assistance with preventing crime on campus. Please be attentive to your surroundings when walking around campus, especially in parking lots and garages. If you observe suspicious behavior or activity (see below), call 9-1-1.

Indications of suspicious behavior include:
· An individual loitering around vehicles, looking underneath or into parked vehicles, or trying door handles of multiple vehicles.

· A vehicle stopped and still running behind another parked vehicle in a way that could conceal criminal activity.

· A person lying underneath a parked vehicle (as though working on the vehicle) in an area where it would be unusual for someone to be performing repairs.

· Activated car alarms.
