About Bike Sales

When the Stanford Department of Public Safety marks bicycles as abandoned and subsequently abates them from bike racks throughout campus, they are held for at least 90 days. After 90 days, abated bicycles are declared unclaimed abandoned property and are eligible for sale or donation.

If you are interested in purchasing one of our abated bicycles, you may make an appointment to view the available bicycles and purchase one from our inventory.

Walk-ins are welcome only during the last 30 minutes of the sale.

  • The location of the bike sale is the bike lot behind the Public Safety Building Bonair Siding Road and Pampas Ln.
  • Each buyer will complete a Release/Waiver form agreeing that the bike is sold “as is” with no guarantees, refunds or liability to Stanford.
  • All available bikes are $40 only, payment can be made electronically or cash.
  • Professional evaluation and repair of any purchased bike is encouraged for safety, and is the sole responsibility of the buyer.

The Department of Public Safety strongly recommends riders register their bikes and has launched a new online bike registration program through Project 529 Garage. Once your bike is registered through Project 529 Garage, if you bike is stolen or missing, you will be able to use the Project 529 system to broadcast alerts and share a photo of your bike.

Be sure to pickup your free 529 Shield at 233 Bonair Siding Road prior to registering your bike.
